The only time we were both away from The Girl was the night Little Man was born but we were home before lunch the next day.
This weekend was AMAZING and we can't wait to do it again.
We drove up to The Husband's parent's place on Friday and just hung out...had dinner...and put the kids to bed. same 'ole, same 'ole.
They knew that we'd be leaving
They knew that Grandma and Grandpa would be taking care of them
They knew that we'd kiss them good morning and goodbye before we left
Little Man was so tired from the night before that he didn't wake up, but The Girl did.
She walked us out with Grandma and waved goodbye.
It wasn't long (like 5 seconds) that she was down the driveway getting her scooter and scooting up and down the drive.
We called a couple hours later only find they were all outside playing and couldn't be bothered.
So just shy of 5 hours later, we were at the parking lot of the chapel. We were EARLY!
It was a sweet ceremony and they even had champagne, strawberries and it's it ice cream sandwiches as a treat. They wanted to take pictures with everyone and they had a time line of who would be up to take a picture with the newlyweds.
We had so much fun.
After the ceremony, we checked into our hotel and headed to the reception site where some friends were hanging out. They found a wine bar and two bottles and a table full of tapas later, we arrived. a few more bottles and more tapas, tales of Spanish bar games from the French owner who worked in Japan and who had just opened his restaurant later, we were all feelin' fine and ready for the 10 course meal awaiting us at the banquet hall.
We left the big mama camera in the hotel so we could just enjoy the moment. we ate and drank. and drank some more. chatted and laughed and soon danced and danced and danced.
There were families with kids and though we were missing our Two we were fully enjoying the night alone.
We had a leisure drive down the coast, headed to our favorite clam chowder place and got back before dinner (earlier than we had promised).
We took the kids out to ice-cream after dinner and The Girl fell asleep in the car on the way home.
Apparently they had a grand time. They got to go into their first McDonald's and even got to eat KFC. Grandma took The Girl to a party and they all had fun playing out front with the sprinklers. The cousins all had a grand time.
hmmm....so when will we be able to do this again? I don't know but we'd love to do it again. Maybe once a month? We'll see. If The Husband's parents are down to have the kids for the weekend on a regular basis (and they're awesome like that that they may) then we'll be able to do this again.
Being able to reconnect and have uninterrupted conversations was priceless. We packed the camera bag and one duffel bag and a suit bag and that was it. We listened to music ~ loudly ~ that we can't listen to with the kids in the car.
Good times....good times...

we were constantly 'checking in' only to find there were just fine without us.
